Hi,
I have a Seiko Memo diary watch, module no. UW02 which I bought new back in the day for the princely sum of ?40.

Used it on and off over the years, as you do.

I now have the classic problem that the watch won’t communicate with the separate keyboard :(

I’ve tried fitting new batteries, and following the reset procedure outlined in the Seiko Technical guide (page 9) here:
http://www.digitalwatchlibrary.com/images/seiko_manuals/UW01A.pdf

I also used a digital multimeter to check the coil impedances in both watch and keyboard, which agree with those in the guide.

All to no avail!

Does anyone have any further ideas?

Thanks,
Maurice.

It’s OK folks - fixed it!

Turned out that the upconverter coil (see page 7 of the guide) wasn’t contacting the board properly, so a dismantling of the module and slight bending back of the two brass contact brushes has resurrected it to full working order again :D

Yes, I’d recommend a careful dismantling of the module (it’s not that difficult), and as above, ensure that the brass coil brushes actually make contact with the PCB.

These watches are well worth the effort of fixing!
