I have a G757-4010 which has stopped functioning properly.
I have replaced the battery but it doesn’t work. It is cosmetically excellent inside and out.
The display occasionally shows something but its never a complete display and usually comes on for a bit then goes. This usually only happens after I have taken the lcd off and but it back together and after I have messed around with the buttons.

The light comes on nice and bright with or without the display showing anything.

I have tried removing the lcd and swapping the zebra strips from another g757 I have (this one sadly has a broken lcd) but that hasn’t helped.

I dont have much knowledge on watches but I’m fairly skilled so might be able to perform a fix.

Im guessing the module is dead but I live in hope the watch is fixable.

If anyone has any advice or has had the same problem who could help me I would be very grateful.

The second seiko was given to me with a broken screen and looks as tho a battery has leaked in it but I cannot confirm this.

Firstly make sure you make sure all contacts are clean. I use a glass fibre pen gently to do this. Make sure that when you replace the zebras they are the right way round, look for small indents in the rubber sometimes with a small gap to one side. If all else fails try a vinegar bath for 10 minutes on the PCB only, then clean with purified water, I then quickly dunk in some pure alcohol to remove water that may be trapped and leave to dry thoroughly in a warm place.
The G757 is a notoriously flaky board probably due to its need for so much juice as you have some life there is hope. Also make sure its a good quality battery and its giving the correct voltage(1.55?).

Thank you for your quick reply. I cant seem to get it right. The zebras I have look the same so I cant tell which way round they go.
Is there anyone in the UK that I could send it to clean it and have a go at making it work?
I dont mind paying or giving the seiko with the broken screen as a thank you.

Hello. Sorry for posting again.

Having cleaned it (thank you for the advice) I but it back together without much luck. Just a broken/fragmented display.

I left it over night, looked at it this morning and it was working. Lovely crisp display with no missing segments and all functions working.

I went to set the time and after pressing the buttons to change it the screen went back to the fragmented display. After leaving it for a while it came back but sadly again after pressing the buttons to set the time it went again.

Is this sort of behaviour likely to be because of the battery? My father is currently on his way over with a meter so I can test it. Seems a little unlikely tho as the display was clear and runs fine until I start pressing buttons.

I will update about the battery.

I’m afraid the module went down. One of my G757’s watches behaves exactly the same way. Try to ask ebay sellers dealing with vintage LCD modules. I’ve managed to buy some this way. Sometimes you can purchase a G757 in a very bad condition with a fully working circuit board. Sorry for the bad news; however, it will cost you around US $120.00. I live in Vienna (Austria) and I don’t mind if you send the defective module to me for checking. However, I cannot guarantee I’ll be able to fix it. I have some experience with G757 being a collector of these watches.

HERE ARE SOME RECOMMENDATIONS. I restored a lot of “faulty” G757 modules using this method which, actually, looked a bit idiotic. I brought back to life the watch described above this morning. It took me 20 minutes.

First of all, buy this product:
I’m not kidding! This is the best liquid to clean circuit boards and zebra contacts. There’s nothing better in the whole World.

Take the battery out. Disassemble the movement. Be very-very careful! Take the circuit board out. Wash it using the liquid. Take a piece of a cotton cloth, put some bebe liquid on it or just put the cirquit board on a piece of cotton cloth (tempo paper) and make a bath for the module. Leave it for 30 minutes afterwards to be sure it’s dry. Re-assemble the watch. I can give you 80% that the problem will go away. I cannot tell you how long the positive effect lasts for. Some of my watches continue working fine for months after this procedure. The one I fixed today? I have no idea. At the moment the watch looks as good as new.

The watch on the picture below had the same problem as your watch. As you can see, it looks much better now 😊

I have read that Polywatch is a good product for removing scratches.
