Yes, sometime between mowing the lawn and looking at a blank screen when I was hoping to find the time, my battery door fell off, no doubt from a disintegrating cell hatch gasket. Jules Borel says cover is not in stock and can’t be reordered. Alas. I like my other watches, but none comes close to the 1979 Seiko World Time. I was first one on my block to say, do you know what time it is in Dubai (DBX)? Any help in locating a battery door would be much appreciated. Thanks. Tom <sniff, sniff> H.

Tom you wont find one that easily. I suggest you start looking at Ebay for a donor watch. I have seen the hatches come up but very rarely.

At least with a donor watch you’ll have other spares too. They do come up quite often as the boards can be quite flaky.

sorry not to be of more help.

Hello Tom, you can also search on Ebay the Seiko A259 because uses the same cover for the battery, so you will increase the chance of finding this piece.
Good luck and hope your Seiko back to life ...

Well, yes and no. I have followed the advice by looking on eBay, but there are pristine watches for hundreds of dollars and more reasonably priced watches that are survivors, with considerable flaws, e.g. To every watch offered for a reasonable price, I have always been outbid by someone waiting in the weeds and striking at the last moment, or who put in an auto bid for an amount considerably higher than I am willing to bid. So, eBay has not been good for me. I did email local and national jewelers who were either disinterested, or who seemingly were willing to ruin a serviceable watch by taking off the battery hatch, but selling it to me for the price of the whole watch, while keeping the watch sans battery hatch. I have not give up hope, but the process is going to take lots longer than I had hoped. While haunting eBay, I did see a person selling a collection of watch backs for “steampunk” art projects. I had hoped to find the needle in the haystack, but I was not successful in this endeavor either. I did find a very nice used Seiko solar Waveceptor with a metal link band in exquisite condition. BTW, the time in Dubai is 3:21 a.m.Tuesday morning. Thanks for your interest. Sincerely, Tom
