I know it’s a minor feature but many people do count on that chime to let them know when to take a break, turn on a favourite TV show, call a friend etc. rather than always setting the alarm feature.

I remember it was about 1983 when I was wearing an LCD watch with the chime feature but I guess the feature is a bit older than that. Any ideas, anyone, after looking through the site?

I think Seikos A714 has an hourly chime. Probably many more, anyone else.

I think one of the first watches to have an hourly chime is the seiko A039 from 1977.

The more I looked, most of the Seikos have an hourly chime. I was just getting a C515 ready for the shop and that has one as well.

Hi Adam,
I believe LCD Seeker wanted to know which watch was one of the first to feature an hourly chime.
I think it’s the seiko a039, but i also heard of a citizen watch from 1976 that has an alarm, but not sure if it has an hourly chime.
What do you think ?

yeah, my bad, didnt read the post properly. I think your A039 is a good bet, I dont think Casio were doing alarms then. Citizen possibly, you’d have to do a search on the library for 1976.

This is the citizen i was talking about, it’s the first digital watch with an alarm feature, but no hourly chime.
I think it’s safe to say that it was the A039 then.
