I’ve recently purchased my first Sinclair Black/Grey watch, but it’s lost the perspex cover over the LED display. Does anyone know where I may find a replacement?

Thanks,

Maurice.

Hi Maurice
Your best bet is to go and ask the guys at either http://www.dwf.nu or http://ww.dwf.cc both forums have amazing information older lcds or LEDs. I’d love to be able to help but can only dream f owning a Sinclair.
good luck in your quest

Thanks Adam.

TBH, it is a very over-rated watch imho, the reality being that in typical Sinclair fashion, it is of highly dubious build quality, and even adjusting the time requires the poking of a pen into an awkward to operate button on the (el-cheapo plastic) case back.

Then, the batteries are barely retained by a floppy bit of polythene type plastic which doesn’t fit properly.

It has two front panel buttons, which supposedly give you two levels of display brightness, yet on mine they both seem to give identical brightness!

Still, it’s nice to have a working example to restore 😊

Maurice

Is the cover just perspex? Could you not just cut another or is it shaped in some way?

Hi Adam,

It looks to be quite an easy shape to replicate, so yes, I may have to resort to making one - just thought I’d ask in case anyone knew of any being available.

Thought I’d whip the module apart to see what’s what, as the case needed a good clean anyway, and the module itself had some areas of oxidisation and corrosion, which made the buttons awkward to operate. Here’s what it all looks like when you ‘unwrap’ it:
