I was lucky enough to find a very nice Casio A201 still with the original battery. I have seen many 103 module watches with bleed and have long thought the issue was possibly to do with battery thickness putting pressure on the very fine double layered lcd panel.

With this watch containing the original battery I thought Id do some tests.

Original battery - CR2016 MATSUSIHTA ELECTRONICS(now taken over by Panasonic) - 1.48mm

Cheap lithium CR2016 - 1.65mm

Panasonic CR2016 - 1.53mm

Not a massive amount of difference but possibly enough to trigger the bleed. Photos below. Maybe worth if you have a cherished 103 module Casio to check the width of your battery, better safe than sorry.

***If I find a current production battery closer to the original I will post it here. If you find one please let me know and I will post it.

*** My initial tests have found that most of the batteries fluctuate in size even in manufacturers. I have found a CR2012 that I will give a go.

Thank you Peter. I have tested the 2012 and it seems to work well. From now on with any 103 modules i’ll be using the CR2012.

regards
